According to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and the Ruler of Dubai, the Government has rolled out the UAE API Marketplace so that the private sector can co-design, develop multi-channel digital services, and offer a value-added customer experience.
Using APIs that are provided by the Government, the UAE API Marketplace aims to improve the quality of life in the United Arab Emirates by providing seamless digital services. This has been facilitated by collaborating with players in the private sector as well as coders and app developers.
The first initiative on the platform is a partnership with Amazon and the Federal Tax Authority, in addition to the Telecommunications Regulatory and Digital Government Authority. Sellers on Amazon UAE will be able to register themselves for tax purposes without any additional difficulty – the systems of Amazon UAE have been modified to record sales transactions and calculate tax accordingly.
This ushers in a whole new level of automation. Sellers no longer have to calculate the tax applicable on their sales. They also know at any given point of time how much they owe by way of taxes to the Government. With Amazon UAE being an e-commerce platform, things have become simpler for the company as well.
Her Excellency Ohood bint Khalifan Al Roumi, the Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, said that this was in line with the Federal Government\’s aims to enhance digital transformation in the United Arab Emirates. She called on coders and app developers to make use of Government APIs for developing solutions that deliver a much improved customer experience.
His Excellency Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, the Director-General of the Telecommunication and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, added that customers could expect Government services anytime, anywhere. He pointed out that this no longer falls on the shoulders of the Government alone. Increased partnerships with private players can greatly accelerate digital transformation.
Speaking at the launch of the UAE API Marketplace, His Excellency Khalid Ali Al Bustani, the Director-General of the Federal Tax Authority, said that the United Arab Emirates had one of the best digital infrastructure in the world. The UAE API Marketplace is expected to increase the speed and efficiency with which Government services are delivered.
His Excellency Major-General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, the Director-General of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship remarked that although the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship offers passport services to citizens and Emirates ID to residents, private establishments could make use of the UAE API Marketplace to offer the same services through their own platforms.
Ronaldo Mouchawar, the Vice-President of Amazon Middle East-North Africa, concluded by saying that Amazon was proud to be the first company in the United Arab Emirates to make use of the UAE API Marketplace. With Amazon UAE, Government processes are now more simplified for sellers. Amazon UAE has made the new feature available to developers and IT service providers.
